When we first started this competition we had no idea the talent would be so fantastic and we’re having such a great time getting creative and mostly, getting very messy in the process!
This month we focussed on the SPRING shoot and wanted to share a little behind the scenes action with you.
Introducing Edita, the second of our four model finalists all vying for the opportunity to win a one year model contract with top London model agency, BMA Models.
We had a real vision for this shoot of a desolate and eerie landscape, from which a single sentient flower blossoms, trying desperately to escape it’s surroundings and bathe in the nurturing sunlight of early spring.
We wanted there to be an element of “mankind” in this landscape, hinting at a forgotten time of industry and highlighting the decay that exists all around us.
So, after a lot of pottering around in many nooks & crannies, as you can imagine, we were really happy to find this place in the heart of the Forest of Dean.
This needed to be a dark & mystical take on Spring so Jodi really went to town on the hair & make-up on this shoot, connecting nature & model as one beautiful woodland nymph…
Part of this project is to provide both the student designers and the model finalists with some stunning showreels of them and their work in action; Justin was on hand to create just that, putting to good use his years of experience as Art Director on editorial shoots for Marie Claire and other big-name fashion mags.
As with the Winter shoot, we’ve been blown away by the talented second year students, studying Fashion Design at Gloucestershire University.
We’re very lucky to be supported by the strong female role models of London designer brand REIN, who are offering the winning designer a coveted prize of being able to spend time with them and pick their brains about what it takes to become successful in the industry; we knew they were impressed with Amelia Dennis who was selected to make our SPRING outfit.
With a hint at whimsical lingerie with its blush under bodice one-piece and it’s oh-so-pretty layered sheer petty-coat we knew this would be the perfect outfit for our woodland nymph to don.
Designer Amelia starts lacing Edita into the corseted bodice.
After I’ve done the finishing touches on my vine green plinth and painted Edita’s feet & lower legs green (you’ll have to watch the video), Jodi adds finishing touches to lips and we’re finally ready to leave to go to our location an hour’s drive away. We’re also relieved to find that the rain has finally stopped.
Once we arrive on location, it’s all about finishing touches to make-up, finding the best angles and setting up.
I must note at this point that we had a serious lack of bodies on this shoot due to one reason or another, so we are so thankful to Edita’s pro-active mum, Nicky, who stepped up on location and took her smoke grenade and set assistance duties as seriously as any hungry runner! So, a massive thank you to Nicky, who’s welcome to come and help out any time!
Finally, Jodi, Amelia & Nicky get to work dressing the outfit with vines and props to give an added element of that spring flower trying to escape the derelict abandon all around her…
We had such a great time on this shoot and would like to thank everyone involved and we simply cannot wait to release the main images which will be very soon – we promise!
Keep your eyes peeled as our WINTER shoot images and film will be released on our blog EVEN SOONER!
